Getting Back in the Saddle

This week was a crazy, exciting one. Bought a house, won a SEC championship, and started back running. I can’t tel you how good it felt to run… Pain-free!! I’m still taking it slowly so I don’t regress, but I’m over the moon about where I am. I’m sure I’ve lost some fitness but excited to get it all back and then some. I think I’m officially back in the saddle.

On top of that, I’m figuring out goals and plans for the 2015 racing season and beyond. I’ve always had long term goals for running/racing, but I’ve always mentioned them in passing or jokingly. However, this past weekend I finally articulated my goals to Hunter and started planning ways to make them a reality.

I’m an impatient person, and the fact that some of these goals are at least a year and a half (and realistically more like 2-4 years away) is difficult. I want to go hammer out distances and speed sessions now. My over-arching goal isn’t even a guaranteed one–even if every other goal leading up to it is met. For some reason though, that’s all the more motivating to me. I like the fact that it’s not just one giant goal way out in the future but that there will be stepping stones (or boulders) necessary along the way. It’s given me a renewed sense of purpose. It’ll be motivating to have that long-term, big picture goal driving me for the next however many years. And I’m just so excited to see what this next year brings.
